Faceted smoky quartz is often sold under the jeweler's trade name smoky topaz, although it is not related to topaz. In Sri Lanka and other Asian Countries, Quartz varieties (crystal rock, citrine and smoky) are referred as 'topaz' (in English). The dealers are not intentionally misleading, but to them quartz is English for topaz and therefore many describe them as Smoky Topaz and many come to know it as Smoky Topaz. What we are selling is actually Smoky Quartz, however, it has also become known as "Smoky Topaz" to many and referred to by many factories and designers. There are similar situations with other stones like "Mystic Topaz" and "Lucky Topaz" as there are no such actual Topaz stones.
